The InvenTeam initiative, created by the Lemelson-MIT Program, offers an unparalleled opportunity for high school students to cultivate their creativity and experience invention. InvenTeams are teams of high school students, educators, and mentors which receive grants of up to $7,500 to invent technological solutions to real-world problems. Each InvenTeam chooses its own problem to solve. The application process occurs in two stages.
High school teachers apply during the initial stage of the InvenTeam grant process. If selected as a finalist, a teacher and their team will apply during the final stage of the grant process. Up to 10 teams will be ultimately be awarded an InvenTeam grant for the 2024-2025 school year. All applicants should consider attending the informational webinars scheduled in March and April.
The initial application will be due April 23, 2024, by 11:59 PM ET.
Finalists will be notified April 30, 2024. Finalists will be invited to attend LMIT's Professional Development on June 12-14, 2024, and see this year's InvenTeams in action. Attendance is optional; you may still submit a final application without attending. LMIT will provide the Professional Development fees, and room and board in an MIT dorm. Transportation is not provided.
The final application will be due Sept 3, 2024, at 11:59 PM ET.
